Norske Idrettsutøveres Sentralorganisasjon ( NISO , German Central Association of Norwegian Athletes ) is a Norwegian trade union . It represents around 1,200 professional athletes , especially in the sports of soccer , ice hockey and handball . As a union, it is a member of the national umbrella organization Landsorganisasjonen i Norge .

background

After initial considerations at the beginning of the 1990s, the union was constituted on July 1, 1995 to represent the interests of professional athletes. The main areas of responsibility are classic employee representation issues; in particular, legal and labor law support and assistance with insurance issues are offered. Every year, the organization gives awards to various athletes at a gala evening, including the “Footballer of the Year” and the “Young Player of the Year”.

As a player representative in professional football, NISO belongs to the Paris-based Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballeurs Professionnels (FIFPro), for ice hockey the World Association of Icehockey Players Unions (WAIPU) and in handball the European Handball Players Union (EHPU).
