Please note the note on the applicable legal version. |
The Emergency Dose Values Ordinance ( NDWV ) was issued as part of a comprehensive modernization of German radiation protection law, which is intended to guarantee protection against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. With it, specific requirements for radiological emergency protection were issued as a statutory ordinance, which until then had been the subject of a recommendation by the Radiation Protection Commission (SSK).
The ordinance specifies dose values that serve as a criterion for the appropriateness of the following protective measures in a radiological emergency:
- Invitation to stay in buildings,
- Distribution of iodine tablets or request to take iodine tablets and
- Evacuation.
These emergency dose values relate to the dose which, after the occurrence of the emergency, a fictitious caregiver without protective measures would receive during an uninterrupted stay in the open air for a certain period of time.
