Numerius Proiectus
Numerius Proiectus was a Roman official who is attested from 393 to 394 as Praefectus annonae . This official administered the grain supply to the city of Rome . Numerius Proiectus is attested on an inscription from Ostia , which reports that he renovated the Hercules temple there. This happened under the briefly reigning anti-emperor Eugenius , who is known to support pagan cults. Numerius could be identical to the Proiectus, who is attested in the year 380 as a friend of Quintus Aurelius Symmachus .
The inscription of the Temple of Hercules reads in translation:
- For our gentlemen Theodosius, Arcadius and Eugenius, the pious and successful victors in the whole world, always Augusti, Numerius Proiectus, member of the senatorial class, head of the food supply, renewed the sanctuary of Hercules
