Nursery Iceland ( English for nurseries Island ) is a small island in the archipelago of Heard Island and McDonald Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located off the west bank of the Winston Lagoon on Heard Island .
Australian scientists named it so because the island is a retreat for the pups of the southern elephant seal that have been weaned from their mothers .
