The O&K K40 is a large dump truck from the German manufacturer O&K , which was produced in series until 1999. It is designed for the transport of large amounts of overburden in deep opencast mines and large construction sites with difficult conditions. The vehicle was developed by Faun in the 1960s and presented in 1968. After the Faun-Werke was taken over by the mechanical engineering company "Orenstein & Koppel" in 1985, production was continued, albeit with the brand name O&K K40 .

The K40 is from a V12 - Deutz - diesel engine with a displacement driven by 19.144 cm, the / has a power output of 480 hp (353 kW) at 2300 rpm. The maximum torque is 1755 Nm at 1500 rpm.

The driver's cab, which is secured against falling objects in accordance with the safety regulations ( Falling Object Protection Structure , FOPS) is attached to the left behind the engine hood and can be reached via a staircase at the front of the vehicle. The tipping skip holds a maximum of 25 m³ and can be moved from the horizontal to the tipping position with two hydraulic cylinders. The maximum payload is 38 tons, the manufacturer specifies the empty weight of the K40 at 25.6 tons, which results in a permissible total weight of 63.6 tons.
