O / C floors
In the German soil systematics, soils are referred to as O / C soils , which consist of organic material in connection with an almost unweathered, stony surface. In the class of O / C soils (class F) are the soil types of rock humus (FF) and skeletal humus soil (FS).
The name of the class refers to the two characteristic soil horizons :
- O stands for organic material with over 30 % by weight of humus .
- C stands for the unweathered raw material that is directly on the surface. In the case of the humus soil, this is bare rock; in the skeletal humus floor coarse floor skeleton ; So rubble , rubble or gravel .
In the rock humus soil there is an organic layer on the rock; on the skeletal humus floor this slipped into the crevices of the loosely lying stones. In both cases, however, the stony material is virtually unweathered, so that there is no transition zone between the materials. So humus and rock can be separated from each other without any effort.
O / C soils can be found in locations that are highly prone to erosion.
