Oaxen is an island and rural town with around 150 inhabitants in the municipality of Södertälje , Stockholm County , Sweden . Oaxen is known for its rich limestone deposits, which have been mined since the 19th century. The island is connected to the mainland by ferry .

The island is best known for its luxurious Oaxens Skärgårdskrog restaurant , which is now in Stockholm. Founded in 1994 by Magnus Ek and Agneta Green , the restaurant has grown to become one of the highest rated restaurants in Sweden and has been named one of the 50 best restaurants in the world by Restaurant Magazine for five years in a row. It closed in Oaxen in September 2011 and in 2013 the new Oaxen Krog & Slip opened near Beckholmsbron in Stockholm's Djurgården in a new building designed by architects Mats Fahlander and Agneta Pettersson . In 2014 the restaurant was awarded one Michelin star and in 2015 two stars.
