Architecture and history

The obelisk made of Stockholm granite was erected in 1800, according to other sources in 1799, based on a design by Louis Jean Desprez and commemorates the Swedish-Russian War of 1788 to 1790 . The obelisk was used to thank the citizens for their support. It is 22 meters high and was composed of several parts. The decision to build the obelisk was made on January 27, 1792 by King Gustav III.

renovation

In 2012 the obelisk was found to be in disrepair; Water had penetrated cracks and joints and caused frost damage. The obelisk was cordoned off due to the risk of collapse and dismantled in June 2017. It is to be replaced in 2018 by an at least partially renovated obelisk.
