The Ashgabat trolleybus was the only trolleybus operator in Turkmenistan . There were never any other networks in the Central Asian state.

The trolleybus service in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat was opened on October 19, 1964 and closed on December 31, 2011. At the time of the country's independence, the seven lines 1, 2, 2A, 3, 5, 7 and 8 operated, but at last only line 1 was operated electrically.

Mostly older vehicles from Soviet production were used, supplemented by 46 more modern cars of the Czech type Škoda 14 Tr , which were financed by the World Bank .
