Oberon (Wieland)
Oberon is a verse epic by Christoph Martin Wieland , which appeared for the first time in 1780 and is based on the mythological figure of the elf king of the same name . The epic was reworked a total of seven times over the years until it found its final form in 1796. It had a great influence on numerous musical and poetic works of the time, such as Schiller's Don Karlos , Goethe's Faust II and Mozart's Magic Flute . Carl Maria von Weber used the material in his last opera Oberon from 1826.
