Object request broker

Object Request Broker ( ORB ) refers to an intermediary in information technology that enables the communication of objects within a distributed system, such as B. the Internet , and this is independent of the operating system and programming language.

The tasks of the Object Request Broker include sending and receiving data. Since data objects on the source and target system because of the byte order may have different representation, provides marshaling for conversion into a unique transmission format. In addition, an interface enables servers and clients to mutually retrieve information and to start actions on the respective computers.

The Object Management Group (OMG) is trying to standardize the Object Request Broker under the name CORBA .

At least one axiomatic definition (4 axioms) exists as a mathematical description of the ORB.
