Object access method

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Object access method is a type of access in z / OS that was developed to access a large number of files (max. 256 MB ), such as. B. to save medical images. OAM is an optional part of DFSMS .

Differences to VSAM are e.g. B:

  • OAM datasets do not have a fixed record structure; pure byte streams.
  • OAM datasets are not cataloged directly, but are stored in OAM collections, which in turn are cataloged. This is to keep the number of entries in the catalog small and to prevent the catalog from overflowing.

OAM can be used in conjunction with DB2 .
