The Occoneechee Speedway was a race track near the small town of Hillsborough in the US state of North Carolina .

The 0.90 mile long dirt track oval opened in 1947. In 1954, the route was renamed Orange Speedway . After the closure in 1968, the entire route area was left to nature, so that the speedway is currently in the middle of a dense forest area.

For some time now, the voluntary organization "Historic Speedway Group" has been taking care of the restoration and maintenance of the facility. In addition, it organizes annual classic car meetings, which are held on the historic grounds.

The Occoneechee Speedway was one of the first two racetracks to open in the history of NASCAR sport. In the 22 years of use, a total of 32 NASCAR Cup races have been held. Since its closure, the Occoneechee Speedway has been the only remaining dirt track that once hosted the first NASCAR Cup races in 1949.
