Ocelum (Gallia cisalpina)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ocelum ( Greek  Ὤκελον ) was the name of an ancient city in what is now northern Italy. It was considered the most westerly place in Gallia cisalpina , the area in northern Italy inhabited by Celts. Not far from the place tried in the year 58 BC BC the regionally resident tribes of the Caturiger Ceutronen and Graioceli to stop the march of Caesar with 5 legions to Gaul ( C. Iulius Caesar , De bello Gallico , book I, chap. 10). The exact location of the place is not known.
