Off-premises

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Off-Premises or Off-Prem (outside of your own premises , not on site or globally ) denotes a usage model for cloud-based software. With the introduction of on-premises , there was no specific name, as there was no need to differentiate between them. With the increased use of software as a service (SaaS) or cloud computing , the term off-premises has emerged as an antonym to on-premises .

In the case of commercial off-prem software, software is rented; its operation and updates are the responsibility of the software provider. The customer usually pays a regular usage fee for the operation, maintenance and further development of the software by the provider.
