Open G tuning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The open G tuning is a Scordatura the guitar . The strings are tuned in such a way that a G major chord sounds when you strike the open strings .

Starting from the standard tuning (E - A - d - g - h - e 1 ) you get the open G tuning (D - G - d - g - h - d 1 ) as follows:

  • The sixth string (bass string) is tuned a whole tone lower. It must then sound an octave lower than the open fourth string. The sixth string in the seventh fret and the empty fifth string should sound the same.
  • The fifth string is tuned a whole tone lower and then sounds an octave lower than the open third string.
  • The first string is also tuned one note lower and then sounds an octave higher than the open fourth string or like the second string in the third fret.

The numbers indicate the fret on which the respective string is to be picked; left the bass string. Strings marked with x are not struck. Numbers in brackets are optional strings.
