Ole Wanscher

Ole Wanscher (born September 16, 1903 in Frederiksberg ; † December 27, 1985 in Charlottenlund , Gentofte ) was a Danish architect and furniture designer.

Life

Wanscher was employed by Kaare Klint from 1924 to 1927 . He then settled down as a freelance architect specializing in furniture design. From 1931 to 1936 he worked as a furniture design teacher at the Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen , as a technical advisor at the nature conservation association Danmarks Naturfredningsforening from 1937 to 1944 and as a secretary in the competition committee of the Akademisk Arkitektforening from 1939 to 1949. From 1955 to 1973 he was professor for Furniture and interior art at the Danish Art Academy .

In addition, Wanscher was a member of the jury of the art academy from 1940 to 1952, and from 1949 as chairman of the architecture section. From 1951 he headed the exhibition committee of Danske Arkitekters Landsforbund .

Based on a long-term collaboration with master carpenter AJ Iversen, Ole Wanscher developed a range of exclusive furniture types that represent a high point of Danish furniture art. Ole Wanscher worked with the furniture manufacturer P. Jeppesens Møbelfabrik since the 1950s . This collaboration continued until Wanscher's death and resulted in numerous well-known models such as the Rungstedlund series, PJ-149 Colonial Chair, PJ-112 and other models. Many furniture models by Ole Wanscher are now manufactured by Carl Hansen & Søn , which took over PJ Furniture A / S in 2012 .
