Omer (Bible)
Omer is the biblical name for the sheaves from the first harvest in spring .
- Omeropfer : Since these sheaves as victims in the Jerusalem temple were brought ( Leviticus 23.9 to 11 EU ), is this sacrifice as well as Omer called.
- Omer measure: measure of capacity for the amount of barley that is to be sacrificed.
- Counting the Omer : In addition, the seven-week period between Passover and Shavuot , during which this sacrifice was made, is also known as the Omer ( Leviticus 23.15–16 EU ). Today there is no longer a temple in Judaism, but the 49 days between Passover and Shavuot are still counted. The seven weeks between Easter and Pentecost correspond to this period.
- Omer book: Book with certain sayings written in it for the days of the Omer counting that are to be prayed on these days.
