Omnibus train

In the time before the general spread of rail cars, light passenger trains with up to three cars were referred to as omnibus trains .

For traction, some railway companies, such as the Grand Ducal Oldenburg State Railways, procured extra light locomotives, often with a 1 A wheel arrangement , which were referred to as omnibus locomotives .

While this type of train has long since disappeared in German-speaking countries, there was a type of train called “Omnibus” in some Romance-speaking countries until the recent past. There, however, it referred to simple passenger trains regardless of the type of rolling stock.
