Omuraisu ( Japanese オ ム ラ イ ス ) or Omurice is a Japanese dish based on European cuisine and dates from the 20th century. The name is a suitcase word from the Japanese terms omuretsu ( omelette ) and raisu ( rice ).

Omuraisu is essentially an omelette that is filled with rice. A sauce, often ketchup or Kraft sauce ( sauce demi-glace ) is served over it. The rice is mixed with meat and / or vegetables .
