John Whiteside

John Whiteside (born 1773 in Lancaster , Province of Pennsylvania , †  July 28, 1830 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Whiteside attended public schools in his home country and then worked on his father's farm. He later got into the hotel and restaurant business. He also ran a distillery. In his home country he also worked as a justice of the peace. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1810 and 1811 .

In the congressional election of 1814 Whiteside was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Edward Crouch on March 4, 1815 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1819 . In 1818 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Whiteside resumed his previous activities. He also worked temporarily as an executor. In 1825 he was again a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. He died on July 28, 1830 in Lancaster, where he was buried.
