Lists on the subject |
The Ontario Mark 3 Navy (MK III) is a US-American made surveyor . The knife is u. a. used by the US Navy and Navy SEALs . It has the NATO stock number NSN 1095-00-391-1056. 440a grade steel is used for the knife. The shape of the blade has been optimized over time and given a different geometry. This was because the tip has broken off too often in the past when leveraging.
The knife was designed in the 1970s and is still in use today. The design of the knife was influenced by the Kalashnikov bayonet . Irony of the story, the Kalashnikov bayonet itself was based on a design for a knife for combat swimmers and was never used for this purpose in the Soviet Union. The revised blade shape no longer reveals the original similarity of the two designs.
