Ooigem Castle

Ooigem is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders and a sub-municipality of Wielsbeke . The place is on the Leie river .

Culture and sights

The church of Saint-Brice has some Romanesque elements that date from the early 13th century. The furniture comes mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as the pulpit from 1720.

The castle has been a protected monument since 1951 and is now privately owned. The park is protected as a landscape.

Economy and Infrastructure

Ooigem lock

A canal leads from the Leie to Roeselare . There is a lock in Ooigem. It was put into operation in 1973. The first lock from 1872 is protected as a monument and can still be used by pleasure boats.
