To enable this M2M communication ( machine to machine , "machine-to-machine"), oBIX defines an object-oriented specification of XML files. These are communicated using a web service based on the HTTP and SOAP standards .

history

OBIX was developed by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), an international, not-for-profit organization that deals with the further development of e-business and web service standards.
