The operational-tactical address (OPTA) is an identifier in radio technology . The OPTA radio directive is the new radio standard that is being introduced as part of the nationwide standardization with digital radio . Some agencies already have the OPTA standard and digital radios others only have the OPTA paging names.

For example, the example of the 1st equipment vehicle of an example fire department becomes:

  • Out: 1/59/1
  • Will: 1-GW-01

The OPTA guideline was issued in North Rhine-Westphalia on January 14, 2013 by the Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities of North Rhine-Westphalia (MIK NRW). The federal government is working with the various state offices and authorities on a nationwide expansion of the OPTA standard and the associated digital radio and associated devices.
