Oppenheimer Blue

The Oppenheimer Blue ("Oppenheimer Blauer") is a blue cut diamond with 14.62 carats that was auctioned off in May 2016 for a record sum of 56.837 million Swiss francs. The diamond is named after its previous owner Philip Oppenheimer (born October 29, 1911, † October 8, 1995 in London). The extraordinary diamond in "Fancy vivid Blue", classified by the Gemological Institute of America as the largest blue diamond, is emphasized by its classic facet cut , or , to be more precise, a step cut . A vvs1 purity is specified for the Oppenheimer Blue; H. Inclusions are very, very difficult to see even at ten times magnification. The stone is set in a ring, the design of which comes from the Fulco di Verdura company , a jeweler founded in New York in 1939.
