Oppidum Vladař

The oppidum Vladař , also called oppidum Záhořice , is located on the Vladař mountain in western Bohemia near the village of Záhořice (German: Sahors ), today a district of Žlutice in the Karlovy Vary district , which is on the right bank of the Střela river (German: Schnella ) rises to a height of 693 meters and is part of the Tepler highlands . The visible ramparts cover an area of more than 100 hectares and are around 3 km long.

Remains of at least one typical Celtic pincer gate can be seen in the west, and there was also a gate in the north. A detailed archaeological research has not yet taken place, only a precise survey was carried out in 2002 and a lidar or airborne laser scan was carried out in 2010. Findings from reading suggest that the settlement was at its peak in the late Bronze Age , but above all in the 6th and 5th centuries BC. Finds from the Iron Age are largely unknown. However, the gate system indicates that the square was also used during the La Tène period . Already because of the delimited area this should have been a prehistorically important place, whether one can actually speak of an oppidum has yet to be clarified due to the fact that it is still missing from the late Iron Age.
