Opsoclonus

Opsoclonus (also: dancing eye ) describes uncontrolled, nystagmus-like movements of the eyes in different directions, which are caused by involuntary contractures of the eye muscles . The name was first coined in 1913.

Opsokloni occur in the context of inflammatory processes (especially encephalitis ), toxic or paraneoplastic syndromes of the cerebellar cortex and - in combination with a myoclonus - in the opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome .
