The optics Matt GmbH & Co. KG is a family owned German company in the second generation with the focus on optometry and hearing aids for consumers. The company has 82 branches (as of 2020) in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Thuringia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia and, according to its own information, is one of the five largest optician companies in Germany. The company is based in Regensburg.
history
In 1955, Bernhard Matt and his wife Hannelore founded their first specialist optician shop in Regensburg in the Pustetpassage.
Wilhelm Anger, a tinkerer who worked on the development of plastics, developed an injection molding process for glasses frames and Bernhard Matt was the first optician in Germany to sell these new glasses.
The founder's son, Michael Matt, took over management of the company with his wife Birgit in 1996. At that time there were already 28 branches in Bavaria. The family business developed into a large group of companies and today has more than 85 branches in Germany. After MATT optik was already active in the acoustics industry from 1965 to 1998, Birgit and Michael Matt added hearing aids to their range again in 2017, increasingly training hearing care professionals to use them in existing branches.
The company now employs over 450 people.
MATT optik has been part of the Opticland purchasing group from Nuremberg since 1978 .
Initial and continuing education
MATT optik trains opticians, master opticians and hearing care professionals. In the in-house training workshop in Waldmünchen, the trainees receive practical and theoretical specialist knowledge thanks to extensive seminars and training courses.
Alignment and Manufacturing
Matt Optik is geared towards the sale of branded products for both spectacle frames and lenses. The fashion aspect of the glasses also plays a decisive role in the selection of the range.
The glasses are produced in Waldmünchen, Upper Palatinate. In January 2020, the management announced that the location will be expanded further.
