Description and purpose of protection

These are near-natural and regenerable floodplain and wet forests with significant occurrences of river valley species and aquatic plants (Trapa natans, Salvinia natans) and rare types of extensive grassland. Great importance for endangered animal species. There are numerous structures to reclaim a floodplain landscape (dam and ditch systems, sluices). Extensive remnants of a floodplain relief: meander arches, former courses of the Rhine with low moor formation, embankments, chutes, oxbow lakes, gravel ridges of different ages of the Rhine systems.
