The FFH area Alter Flugplatz Karlsruhe is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-6916-341) in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg registered in 2005 by the Karlsruhe Regional Council according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Karlsruhe on the definition of areas of community importance of October 12, 2018, the protected area was established.

location

The approximately 69 hectare FFH area belongs to the natural area 223- Hardtebenen within the natural spatial main unit 22- Northern Upper Rhine Lowland . It is located in the urban area of Karlsruhe and is completely surrounded by buildings.

Description and purpose of protection

The former military airfield is a largely flat sandy area with an inland dune, as well as sandy grass of various types and extensive areas of bristle grass.
