The FFH area Rheinniederung between Wintersdorf and Karlsruhe is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-7015-341) registered in 2005 by the Karlsruhe Regional Council in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC ( protected area identifier DE-7015-341) in the German state of Baden- Württemberg . With the ordinance of the regional council of Karlsruhe on the definition of areas of community importance of October 12, 2018, the protected area was established.

The approximately 5,526 hectare FFH area belongs to the natural areas 212- Ortenau-Bühler Vorberge , 222- Northern Upper Rhine Lowland and 223- Hardtebenen within the natural spatial main units 21- Middle Upper Rhine Lowland and 22- Northern Upper Rhine Lowland . It lies between the Rastatt district of Wintersdorf and Karlsruhe along the Rhine and extends over the markings of twelve cities and communities.

Description and purpose of protection
It is a recent flood plain with old floodplains and marginal depressions in the northern Baden Upper Rhine Plain in the transition area of the Rhine from the furcation to the meander zone with valuable forest and offshore biotopes and continuous bodies of water for migratory fish species.
