ora Kinderhilfe international eV is a Christian children's aid organization that was founded in 1981 and supports children in need worldwide. The seat of the association is in Berlin. There are also independent associations in Switzerland, Austria and New Zealand.

"Ora" originally stood for the English words Orphans, Refugees and Aid (orphans, refugees and help). Today it is used as a proper name. Ora also stands for the word "pray" in Latin, known from the saying ora et labora - pray and work.

ora Kinderhilfe international eV was founded in 1981 by Heinrich Floreck in Friedberg as a non-denominational Christian humanitarian aid organization under the name Deutscher Hilfsfonds. Five years later, the organization moved to Korbach in northern Hesse, where the association was based for 26 years. In August 2014 the association moved to Berlin. The name change from ora international to ora Kinderhilfe also took place in 2014.

In addition to the office in Berlin, ora has a logistics center in Korbach, from where aid supplies are organized abroad.

ora Kinderhilfe international eV bears the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues .

The association supports project partners in ten countries on four continents worldwide. The main focus of work is child sponsorship, development cooperation and disaster relief.

Development cooperation

In the projects funded by the association, the organization's employees plan and implement long-term, individual aid measures together with the people in need. The aim is to help people shape a better future and to improve their living conditions in the long term. The project work is managed by local partners on site. The child is the focus of every project. Nevertheless, the families and the social environment of the child are also taken into account in order to create a comprehensive improvement in the children's living situation.

Disaster relief

The association is also active when it comes to repairing the damage and consequences of wars, famines, diseases and natural disasters.

Sponsorships

The organization organizes a sponsorship program that is active in 10 developing countries on four continents. A child sponsorship is the most direct way to help and is usually integrated into the project work on site. Sufficient nutrition, basic medical care, good clothing as well as school and vocational training are thus ensured. The patron of the sponsorship program is Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
