Order “Liberation of the People 1941–1944” 2nd class

The order “Liberation of the People 1941–1944” was founded on September 14, 1945 and could be awarded to Bulgarians who had proven themselves through courage and bravery during the liberation struggle before September 9, 1944. Foreigners could also be honored if they had rendered services to the Bulgarian people in the fight against fascism during the same period . Posthumous awards were also possible.

Order classes

The order was donated in two classes.

Appearance

The sign of the order is a five-pointed star with rays in the angles. In the first class, the star is enameled white and the rays are gold-plated. The second class, on the other hand, is enamelled red with silver rays. The medallion shows the portrait of the poet Christo Botew , who was one of the leaders of the April uprising against Ottoman rule in 1876. This is enclosed by a green ring with the Cyrillic inscription За Народна Свобода 1941–1944 (For the Liberation of the People 1941–1944).

Carrying method

Originally designed as plug-medal donated, the award was presented later at a pentagonal red ribbon with silver-white curbs. The second class belt also has a narrow edge strip.

Award numbers

A total of 68,265 awards can be documented. The first recipient of the award was Georgi Dimitrov .
