Order of the golden stole

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The order of the golden stole , also knightly order of the golden stole , was a Venetian order . It was called L'Ordre de l'Etole d'ore , or “(Delle) Storo d'oro” in Venice for short. The medal was a hand-width stole embroidered with golden flowers , which was worn over the right shoulder to the left hip and reached at least knee height.

The Senate of Venice honored its members with it. Military officials and envoys are said to have been among those honored. These were called knights of the golden stole. There should have been a maximum of 20 awards. The order was hereditary, especially in the houses of Contarini del Zaffo, Quirini, Morosini and Rezzonico

The time of foundation and expiration is not known.
