Organization of Serbian students abroad

The Organization of Serbian Students Abroad (OSSA) is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization that was founded in 1997 by Serbian students abroad. The organization has set itself the task of networking Serbian students abroad and also supporting them when they return to their homeland.

The organization is based in Belgrade , Serbia. It has 15 offices in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. She also works increasingly with students in Serbia. The structure of the organization has changed several times. Today it has a total of 10,000 members, 150 of whom are involved in the organizational activities.

history

The aim of the OSSA, founded by Serbian students in North America and Europe in mid-July 1997, was to create a global network of Serbian students. Branch offices should be set up in as many countries around the world as possible. The main idea of ​​the organization is to bring Serbian students together and maintain their connection with Serbia. It also strives to realize the common interests of the Serbian students. Within a few months it brought together ten associations of Serbian students in Europe, the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany.

founder

The organization was founded by a group of 15 Serbian students in the US and Western Europe. They sought advances in diplomacy, academic work, entrepreneurship, international relations, and politics.

Since its inception and until today, the organization has pursued the following goals:

  • Help with studying abroad
  • Help with returning to Serbia
  • Promotion of Serbia abroad
  • Implementation of various internships with the aim of gaining work experience for Serbian students
  • Cooperation with other NGOs worldwide

Structure of the organization

The governing bodies of the organization are the President, the Vice-President, the General Assembly and the Board of Directors. The members of the General Assembly are also the members of the organization. The organizational structure includes the board of directors, various teams and the auditor.

Branches

The branches of the organization represent organizational units of Serbian students in the countries where they study. Their main aim is the promotion of Serbia and bringing together Serbian students through their activities. The branches can be set up on four different levels: university, city, state or federal level. All branches on the territory of a state represent the national representation of the organization. To date, the organization has 15 branches.

Projects

Since its inception, the organization has carried out various projects aimed at improving study conditions outside of Serbia, subject-specific internships for students and humanitarian activities. In the last few years (as of 2016) the most important projects have been: Get to know the state of Serbia, internships in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Serbia abroad, gifts for small children, Summer General Assembly OSSIlacija, Summer Networking Event, Guide for the nostrification of foreign diplomas, Classes in high school schools, National Day of the Republic of Serbia, On the Paths of Serbian Culture, OSSA-Exit Adventure and others.

This project represents the organization's wish to include as many Serbian students abroad as possible in the promotion of the Republic of Serbia. Another goal is to work systematically on the promotion of Serbia and to bring it to a more professional and effective level.

Internships in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Serbia abroad

The idea of ​​this project was to enable Serbian students abroad to have a work experience while maintaining the connection between them and their homeland. That is why the choice fell on the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Serbia abroad.

Summer General Assembly (OSSIlacija)

The Summer General Assembly (OSSIlacija) is the central event of the organization over the course of a year. It takes place once a year in Belgrade, Serbia. The event brings together both the Serbian students and the Serbian experts from many countries around the world.

Brochure for studying abroad

This project is one of the most important projects in the history of the organization. The project is a comparative analysis of university education in countries where OSSA has its branches. The university education systems were examined according to the same criteria. The information was then collected and published in a brochure. This project made it possible for Serbian students to get all the important information about studying abroad in one place for the first time.
