Oriental Bay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oriental Bay is both the name of a bay and of the borough of Wellington in New Zealand that lies next to it .

With its location near the central business district on Wellington Harbor , it has the closest beach to the city center, making it a popular place to stay and visit. In addition, there is the only beach in the area that opens to the north and towards the sun.

Oriental Bay is located on the northern slope of Mount Victoria , 1.5 km southeast of the city center. It is the beginning of a coastal road that leads around Evans Bay via Hataitai . To the north of the town lies the port of Wellington, to the east the district of Roseneath and to the west Te Aro .

The bay was named after one of the first ships that brought settlers to Wellington.

At the 2006 census, Oriental Bay had a little over 1,000 residents.

The Carter Fountain on the bay is a landmark.
