Operation Ortsac was the project name of the US military planned invasion of Cuba in the 1960s. The name is derived from the Cuban President Fidel Castro , whose surname is simply spelled backwards.

In the context of the Cuba crisis , the US government considered a. a military strike against the Cuban missile positions. The nuclear weapons supplied by the Soviet Union were supposed to be switched off with the help of massive air strikes before they were operational. The plans were discarded in favor of the sea blockade . It subsequently emerged that the missiles in Cuba were already fully operational at this point and that an American attack would probably have resulted in a nuclear counter-attack.
