Jacobus Petrus du Randt , better known as Os du Randt , (born September 8, 1972 in Elliot , South Africa ) is a former South African rugby union player who took up the position of the left pillar for the Springboks , the Central Cheetahs ( Super 14 ) and the Free State Cheetahs ( Currie Cup ) played. Du Randt played for the Cats in the Super 12 but then moved on to the new Central Cheetahs Super 14 franchise after the Free State Cheetahs left the Cats franchise. He was one of the few former amateur players in rugby at international level.
Os (his Afrikaans nickname is " ox " because of his tall, muscular figure) played for the Springboks for the first time in 1994 and was used at the 1995 World Cup , when South Africa became world champions. Du Randt continued as an important player at the Boks in the following years. It was voted the second best left pillar of all time by Rugby World magazine in 1999.
The 190 cm tall and 125 kg heavy du Randt is the last professionally active player in the 1995 world championship team.
In 2007 du Randt became world champion for the second time . Following the tournament in France, he announced the end of his career.
