Oshiroi ( jap. 白粉 ), the powder is called to the White skin, which in Japan mainly in kabuki - actors and Geisha and Maiko is used.

The spelling 白粉 means “white powder” - the pronunciation oshiroi simply means “white” ( shiroi ) with the honorary prefix o- .

application

Oshiroi is not applied directly to the skin. Special types of wax are used as a primer. The face and neck are covered with bintsuke ( 鬢 付 [け] ). Ishineri ( 石 練 [り] ), on the other hand, is specially applied to the eyebrows.

Then the oshiroi mixed with water is applied to the skin with a wide, flat brush and powdered with rice powder.
