Osiris (search engine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Osiris ( Os nabrück I ntelligent R eSearch I nformation S ystem) is a multi-lingual intuitive-to-use natural language search program especially for bibliographic databases .

In the case of thematic inquiries, Osiris achieves search results that are qualitatively more relevant than a normal OPAC ( Online Public Access Catalog , which is used, for example, in universities). The system is currently being further developed in the electronic library of the State and University Library Bremen and was previously also used by the Swiss library network NEBIS at the ETH Zurich .

The program “understands the question” (thanks to the database) and can therefore search not only using Boolean algebra (and, not, or), but also using extended sentences.

Osiris is also the name of software that can be used to detect changes to a computer's file system. Such a tool is typically used to support system administration or to detect break-ins on the computer in question.
