Ostmark (beer)

Ostmark is a type of beer that was launched in 1910 in Königsberg (Prussia) as a product of the Ostmark brewery . It has been manufactured again in what is now Kaliningrad ( Russia ) since 1994 , according to the manufacturer according to the original German recipe.

The brewery is located in the former property of the former German manufacturer in the Devau district . This was founded in 1814 as the Königsberg brewery and in 1910 several innkeepers converted it into a joint stock company, the Ostmark Brewery .

In 1945 the brewery continued to operate under the name Kaliningradski Piwsawod . After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the brewery was again converted into a stock company; now under the name Piwowarnja Ostmark ( Ostmark Brewery ). In 1994 all the brewery's systems were completely renewed. In addition, the brewery got the license to brew the beer of the Austrian brewery Göss , the Gösser . Then a Hamburg company and in 1998 the Detroit Brewing Company took over the brewery. In 2001 the brewery became part of the Russian holding company Ivan Taranov Breweries . Since 2005, the company has been owned by the Dutch Heineken Group under the short name PIT .

Most recently, around 40 million bottles were produced each year. The traditional names Ostmark or Königsberg were written in Cyrillic or Latin letters on the crown caps and labels .

In October 2016, Heineken announced that it would close the brewery on January 1, 2017.
