The OKA (for Otto Kaltenbach Altensteig) was a cutlery factory in Altensteig ( Calw district ) that existed from 1921 to 1967.

history

The company was founded in 1921 by Otto Kaltenbach (1884–1960) in Altensteig, Oberamt Nagold . He was a son of the founder of the Altensteiger cutlery factory Karl Kaltenbach (1845-1924). He founded his company in 1870, which initially operated as "KK" and from 1895 as "KKS" (Karl Kaltenbach and Sons). After his death she was abandoned by the two owner families in 1928 and in an AG converted its shares from then on to 55% Wilkens and 45% of Degussa belonged. In 1951 the company was renamed "Auerhahn" and in 1961 it was converted into a GmbH . In 1967 OKA was bought by Auerhahn, so that the brand OKAwent out. Before that, OKA existed as an independent competitor to Auerhahn. When Wilkens went bankrupt in 1995, the healthy Auerhahn company threatened to be swept away. The rescue came through a takeover by WMF , whose subsidiary it is to this day.
