Ouallene (also Ouallen ) is a fort (Bordj) in the Algerian Sahara .

History and description

Ouallene is about 250 km southeast of Reggane and about 60 km east of the Tanezrouft piste or national road 6 , an important north-south route and connection to Mali . In the past, the oasis on the southern edge of the Asedjrad Mountains served as a water supply in the Tanezrouft . The abandoned in 1960 French base Poste Weygand ( 24 ° 34 '6.5 "  N , 0 ° 44' 17.2"  O ) was supplied by Ouallene with water.
