Ousas

Gold coin of the Ousas

Ousas was a Christian king of the Aksumite Empire in Africa who ruled at the end of the fourth century. The ruler is known almost exclusively from his coins, whereby those of Ella Asbeha are similar. Therefore it has already been assumed that Ousas is just another name of Tazena, which in turn appears in later tradition and on coins of Ella Asbeha as his father.

The bust of Ousas appears on both sides of his coins. On the front is usually the inscription: OYCAC BACILEYC - Ousas, the King -, on the lapel THEOY EYXAPICTIA - by the grace of God.
