Outernet

Outernet is a made-up word that especially the augmented reality (augmented reality) has the focus and will describe the related integration of virtual elements in real life conditions. In the Outernet, the Internet is like an additional layer over our environment and the learned possibilities - linking, search function, personalization and interaction - are thus also transferred to physical objects and products.

Applications

Cellular data flat rates, the Internet of Things , the possibility of geolocation and augmented reality systems are the most important driving forces behind this ubiquitous generation of the Internet. In addition, data transmission methods such as HSDPA , LTE and WiMAX consistently abolish the separation of offline and online. Various location-based services are already marketable, most of which are used via mobile apps from the smartphone, offer information and services in a context-related manner and have often also integrated the community aspect. In addition, when geo-chips and visual codes turn virtually every physical product into a real hyperlink, the boundary between product and sales area is also eliminated.

In 2008 trend researcher Max Celko described in a cover story of GDI IMPULS magazine a future scenario for the merging of the Internet with the real world using location-based technologies and augmented reality under the title "Hyperlocality - The New Creation of Reality".

In 2009 the trend research company TrendONE, Max Celko and the advertising agency Proximity created the Outernet Whitepaper, which made the word “Outernet” a description for the integration of virtual elements in real living conditions in the German-speaking public.

In 2010 the trend research institute “2b AHEAD ThinkTank” worked together with the “Institute of Electronic Business” at the Berlin University of the Arts to develop a trend study that went beyond the technological description of the strategic importance of the “Outernet” for the economy and society.
