Oxic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oxic (also oxy or oxy ) means “ oxidizing ” or as a narrower term “ containing oxygen ”. The opposite is anoxic .

Oxic systems have a high redox potential .

The term “oxic” is used in particular to characterize the environment of living things such as bodies of water, water sediments, soils and artificial systems. In an oxic system, only organisms can be active that can tolerate oxygen or are even dependent on oxygen (facultative anaerobes or obligatory aerobes ).
