Panultima

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pänultima , also Paenultima or Penultima (add: vox , Latin penultimate tone) describes the tone before the ultima ( vox ), the last tone of a ligature , in medieval music theory . In the counterpoint teachings of the 14th to 18th centuries, it denotes the penultimate tone or sound of a clause . As the penultimate place of the final formation, the Panultima is often specially designed, e.g. B. as Organicus punctus ( organ point ) in the polyphony of the 13th century. The position preceding the Panultima is called Antepenultima or Antepaenultima or Antepenultima .
