The Pützer Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co KG was in the late 1950s by Alfons Pützer founded on basic research of the use of plastics in industrial and aeronautical applications in Bonn.

history

Since the mid-1950s, Alfons Pützer KG began using more and more plastics in the context of industrial assembly production. Plastics for non-load-bearing structures were also used for the first time in aircraft construction at Alfons Pützer KG as part of the Pützer Elster in 1957. When using plastics in aircraft construction, Alfons Pützer worked closely with Ludwig Bölkow and Bölkow GmbH in Nabern at the end of the 1950s . Shortly thereafter, Alfons Pützer founded Pützer Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co KG (PKT) in Bonn to differentiate the risks of basic research from Alfons Pützer KG. The PKT was a pure research company without its own production or larger laboratories. Necessary work and tests were usually assigned to external organizations or companies by the PKT and coordinated via the PKT. In order to finance the basic projects, PKT appeared as an applicant for public bodies. The scientific findings from the various basic projects were secured within the PKT through numerous patents.

One of the initial focus areas at PKT was the development of suitable plastic building structures, such as plastic honeycomb structures and later composite structures. The first larger plastic assemblies for aircraft construction were produced at PKT with wing end tanks for the Lockheed Starfighter. Load-bearing structures such as the ring tail unit by Erich Ufer for the Pützer Bussard were also supported by the PKT.

Around 1960 Alfons Pützer and Ludwig Bölkow founded the study office for light aircraft construction , in which PKT and Bölkow Apparatebau GmbH in Nabern were involved. The aim of this study office was to build the first fully plastic powered airplane, which initially ran under the name Bölkow-Pützer BP 205 . Hanno Fischer from Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH in Mönchengladbach later joined this study group. The three partner companies then founded the joint venture Leichtflugtechnik Union GmbH (LFU) in 1963 , one third of which was maintained by Bölkow GmbH, Pützer Kunststofftechnik and Mönchengladbacher Luftfahrtunternehmen Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH. In the context of the LFU, the PKT was primarily used to investigate issues relating to the manufacture of assemblies and the composition of materials. The four-seat all-plastic aircraft LFU-205 was built by 1968.

PKT remained unaffected by the relocation of the aeronautical activities of Alfons Pützer KG to Dahlemer Binz. The company remained based in Bonn as an independent research company, independent of what would later become Sportavia.

The PKT existed until the 1970s as a partner company of the LFU and as the holder of the patented knowledge from the LFU development. After the conclusion and dissolution of the LFU, the PKT was also dissolved in the mid-1970s. Alfons Pützer later sold the patent rights to Sportavia.
