p7zip is a port of command line tools of the free 7-Zip -Archivprogrammes ( 7z , 7za ) for POSIX - platforms . Under Linux it is the only program to offer full support for the 7z archive format, which has become known for the high packing rates of the Lempel-Ziv-Markow data compression algorithm introduced with it.
With PeaZip one exists platform independent graphical user interface for p7zip. In addition, p7zip often serves as a substructure for the 7z support in other graphic tools.
Together with lzip and the XZ Utils , it is the first and so far only implementation of LZMA under Linux.
The p7zip project also offers a Java version (J7Zip) and a Java port of the LZMA decoder of the LZMA SDK.
